Dr. Eckman is the Director of Research and Academic Affairs at MANA, Director for Translational Sciences at Atlantic Health System and Professor of Biomedical Sciences at the Biomedical Research Institute of New Jersey. He moved into these roles following a distinguished research career, most recently, as Professor and Chair of the Department of Neuroscience at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. Dr. Eckman holds four U.S. patents, has been awarded over 40 licensed invention certificates, and authored more than 80 articles. In addition to his work in pediatric metabolic diseases, Dr. Eckman was named one of the top 100 most-cited researchers in Alzheimer’s disease research.

Dr. Eckman is responsible for building upon the existing research programs at MANA, identifying the most promising areas for neonatal research development, and establishing new research programs that will enhance the care of critically ill and premature infants. His experience in research administration and development has enhanced MANA’s research program and solidified its reputation as a neonatal research center. Dr. Eckman directs projects to identify and evaluate novel neonatal therapeutics, and assess mediators of neonatal brain injury and neurodevelopment.
