During the last trimester of pregnancy and the first few months after birth, humans grow more quickly than any other time in their lives. Infants that spend time in the NICU may have this important growth period disrupted, either because they are born prematurely or have special medical needs. For this reason, neonatal growth and nutrition is a top priority at MANA; and we have created a multidisciplinary team that focuses on assessing and optimizing growth for our NICU babies. The group works closely with parents to provide milk and personalize feeding strategies; and continues to track growth and nutrition after discharge home. Our goal is to ensure that our patients have the best possible growth. The team also tracks long-term nutritional and developmental outcomes, in order to inform future practice and share with the clinical community.
