Many infants that stay in our NICU require assistance with breathing. These infants may receive an endotracheal tube, which can be connected to a mechanical ventilator to support respiration. At times, the breathing tube may become dislodged before a patient is ready and it must be replaced. When this occurs, it is called an “unscheduled extubation.”
