Dr. Pacheco-Quinto established his research career examining the risk factors associated with Alzheimer’s disease (AD). His previous work focused on understanding the correlation between the toxic accumulation of the Aβ peptide in AD patients and other cardiovascular risk factors, such as cholesterol, homocysteinemia and hypertension. Dr. Pacheco-Quinto has also investigated the role of ischemic insults in the initiation of AD and other neurological disorders.
As a postdoctoral fellow at MANA, Dr. Pacheco-Quinto is involved in an important study to assess how the endothelin system, which controls blood pressure, impacts the development of neurological diseases. He is also developing and testing compounds for the treatment of ischemic disorders in neonates. Dr. Pacheco Quinto has a diverse skill set that includes techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry, microscopy and animal modeling. His expertise is a valuable asset to preclinical research at MANA.
