With extensive training in biological chemistry, Dr. Herdt has participated in a variety of medically related projects in a lab focused on chemical engineering, materials science, and nanotechnology. She has worked in a pharmaceutical lab devoted to designing and testing protein and antibody therapeutics for cancer treatment, most recently focusing on therapeutic development for neurodegenerative diseases.
In her role as the Director of Research Communications, Dr. Herdt taps into her own research experience to provide support to the preclinical and clinical scientists at MANA. She participates actively in project planning and data analysis, research presentation, and project management. Dr. Herdt also collaborates with research staff to compose, edit and submit research grants, publications and development materials. Although her role is primarily administrative, she is an integral part of the development of research at MANA. She also serves as the lead administrator for the REDCap program, a research database that is being used by members of the AHS Departments of Cardiology, Oncology and Neonatology, Orthopedics and Pharmacy.
